Package Overview
A sunset dive for one of the ocean's most colourful fish
Experience a different side of scuba diving in Malapascua with our Sunset Mandarin Fish Dive at MBI Dive Center. As daylight fades over the island, you head out on a guided dusk dive focused on one of the ocean's most colourful small creatures: the mandarin fish. It is one of the most popular macro dives in Malapascua and a favourite with underwater photographers diving in Cebu and the Philippines.
Why dive at sunset?
Mandarin fish are tiny, shy fish, only a few centimetres long, that spend most of the day hidden deep in coral rubble. As the light begins to fade, they come out to feed and to court. Pairs may rise together just above the reef in a brief, delicate mating display that lasts only moments. Their striking blue, green and orange patterns make them one of the most photographed fish in the Indo-Pacific.
How the dive works
We meet at the dive center at 4:30 PM for assembly and a full briefing before heading to the site as the sun goes down. Your dive guide leads a small group of up to 12 divers and helps you find the fish without disturbing them. Good buoyancy and patience are the key to a great encounter, so you can settle near the reef, stay still and let the mandarin fish come out on their own.
