Malapascua Island dive sites
A shallow muck and macro site, best known for mandarin fish at dusk.
Lighthouse is a shallow dive close to Malapascua, at roughly 3 to 10 m. It is the island's best-known place to see mandarin fish. These tiny, brightly patterned fish hide in rubble all day and come out as the light fades to feed and court, which is why the dive is timed for sunset.
The same patch is good macro ground. Divers report seahorses (including pygmy seahorses), frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish and blue-ringed octopus here. Bring patience: the best sightings come from staying still and letting the animals come out.
Close by lies the Lighthouse wreck, a Japanese landing craft from the Second World War in about 3 to 5 m of water. It is broken into two sections and is an easy first wreck, often used for training. Mandarin fish sightings depend on natural activity and are not guaranteed.
