Gato Island is one of the most popular diving day trips from Malapascua, and a highlight for many divers visiting Cebu and the Philippines. Our 3 Gato Island Dives package takes you on a full-morning boat trip with three guided dives, giving you time to explore the island's reefs, walls and hidden corners at a relaxed pace with an MBI Dive Center guide.
What lives at Gato Island
Gato Island is known for its unique marine life and underwater encounters. Divers come here for:
White-tip reef sharks - often found resting on the sea floor
Pygmy seahorses - tiny and well camouflaged, a favourite for macro lovers
Cuttlefish - colour-changing and fascinating to watch
Electric clams - flashing light along their mantle
Spider crabs - and plenty more small critters for sharp-eyed divers
With both big and small marine life on the same trip, Gato Island is a great choice for underwater photographers and for divers who want variety in a single day.
Trip times
The trip starts at 6:00 AM and is expected to return around 1:30 PM, so you are back on Malapascua with the whole afternoon free.
Who it is for
This trip is for certified divers holding Advanced Open Water or higher. If you are not Advanced yet, our PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course is the next step. If it has been six months or more since your last dive, book our Refresher Course before the trip.
Combine it with the sharks
Many divers pair Gato Island with our 3 Shark Dives to Kimud Shoal for thresher sharks and Monad Shoal for tiger sharks. Together they make up the classic Malapascua dive trip.
